Worn in Week: Pregnant Princess Charlene Wears Dior and Akris

Busy week for Princess Charlene that hadn't been seen for over a month. On the 28th, the princess was awarded the honorific distinction of Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Star of Italy in a ceremony at the Italian Embassy in Monaco.

Charlene received the decoration in the presence of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco from the hands of the Italian Ambassador to Monaco as a reward for her "worldwide humanitarian and philanthropic action and initiatives for the protection of children and the values of Sport and Her strong attachment to Italy".

You might remember that the princely couple visited Italy in 2012 where they attended the Ballo del Giglio (one of only 2 times when Char wore Gucci).

For the ceremony, the princess chose a sleeveless two-tone Dior dress. This has to be the best maternity dress ever. The line of the blue overlay makes a brilliant camouflage and almost totally hides the bump (which got some of you wondering). Dior hasn't confirmed whether the dress is custom made or not, so I'm not exactly sure if it's "technically" a maternity dress. Anyways, Char paired it with her pearl stud earrings.

Yesterday, Charlene de Monaco was presented with a Certificate of Irish Heritage at the Princely Palace. Charlene's ancestor, the Fagans of Feltrim were one of the most financially successful gentlemen-merchant families in Ireland during the 16th century. You can know more about Char's generous ancestors (they built a university) HERE.

To receive her certificate, Charlene rolled out of bed, put on what looks like a custom Akris (I'm yet to get that confirmed), tucked her hair away from her face and smiled the largest smile a tired, pregnant lady can smile. You can click on the photo for a larger view of the brilliant seams of the dress. Charlene's choice of shoes for both events isn't known but maybe she ditched her heels already!

What do you think of Charlene's maternity style so far?

  1. After seeing her hair in the last photo, I am convinced that she suffers from morning sickness and needed to have her hair out of her face. But then forgot that she had her hair pinned up. So I will not fault her for that as she looks so tired. I also had a difficult pregnancy so I know how it is.

    1. Agree with you. She looks tired and definitely like someone who's dealing with some rough morning sickness. I hope she's not one who has to deal with it for the duration.

  2. The blue and white dress looks a bit like a wrap-a-round dress. The blue front panel doesn't look sewn onto the white front panel. So Princess Charlene might be able to reuse this dress in later stages of her pregnancy.

The Wittstock ancestors were educated enough to donate for the foundation of a university? Excellent, that means at last some of them at some time enjoyed an education that's worth the name "education".

Now, if Charlene had been presented with her own junior high-school diploma, _that_ would have been _real_ news. In that case, even her awful make up and dress from the 2nd photo i would have excused. Otherwise: a big NO. She looks like a pale pancake on a white plate. Colourless, washed out, unkempt. Even my cleaning lady looks better.

Pregnancy issues excuse a lot, but not everything, certainly not this "look".

  4. Love her style. Both dresses really nice, but I wish the poor girl could do something with her hair. I understand it is thin, but surely someone can advise her.

  5. Nice dresses - and very wearable, even for ladies who are not pregnant but have a fuller body shape.

    1. In the first photo, Princess Charlene's dress is definitely much higher in the front than in the back, indicating that there is a big bump.

  8. Hi Kem,
I just saw the fist photos of Princess Charlene at the Red Cross Ball. She has on a Navy (front) Black (black) (silk taffeta?) sleeveless gown. The gown is large, but the profile pictures shows her bump. Her hair is beautiful and soft. I love the jewelled head piece (not quite a tiara). Is that new. Beautiful make-up very soft, except that her eyes are tired. She looks so beautiful. Pregnancy agrees with her. She definitely has that pregnancy glow.
